Cliché New Year Blog Post - Fireworks in London and Afternoon Tea at Harrods

Happy New Year! And welcome to my new year's resolution of 2014; writing my blog.

I actually kicked off 2014 with style by visiting rainy old London and the bangs of fireworks over Big Ben and the London Eye. Over 250,000 people gather along the embankment for this annual event, and so you can imagine the hustle and bustle of the crowds.

London - New Year Fireworks - 2013

Quick Tip
If you are planning to go next year, hang out near the back and don't get penned in by the fences in the thick of the crowd. We stood by Westminster Abbey, just out of the chicken pen of fenced in people. It was great as we could see Big Ben and the Eye, the fireworks were crackling overhead, and then we smoothly slipped away to St James's Tube stop, hopped on at 00:15 and sipping cocktails at a house party in Camden by 1am. People in the chicken pen that I talked about were queuing until 04:30 to get out. Not too fun in the rainy, cold, and very windy evening.

New Year also involved a very extravagant afternoon tea at Harrods. If you are a visitor to the UK, or just to London itself, I think that Afternoon Tea is essential for a typically English dining experience, and is also available at many of the high end hotels such as The Ritz and Claridges.

My afternoon tea was just perfect; consisting of finger sandwiches, english fruit scones with clotted cream and jams, tiny, delicious (very beautiful and glittery) cakes, and the main ingredient; a pot of tea!
